Promenade Park : Street Furniture
This furniture designed and built by John Kingston for Lancaster City Council, re-used the redundant flood boards from the old sea defense wall; making practical use of a council asset that would otherwise have been thrown away. The metal end pieces were fabricated from stainless steel and powder coated using the four colours from the Met Office severe flood warning chart.
The modular end pieces can be placed in various configurations – to make long benches, smaller seats or ‘back-to-back’ tables. We approached the project using a Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper (LQC) method of development; coming up with an original place-based idea, that can be expanded upon over time.
