Promenade Park : Street Furniture
This set of bright, contemporary street furniture sits proudly on Morecambe’s promenade alongside Eric’s famous statue. The benches were designed and built by John Kingston for Lancaster City Council.
John’s benches are built using flood defense boards from Morecambe’s previous sea defence wall. Re-using these boards makes practical use of council assets which would otherwise have been thrown away.
The bench ends are powder coated using the four colours from the Met Office severe flood warning chart. These modular end pieces can be used in various ways – to make long benches, smaller seats or ‘back-to-back’ tables.
We approached the project using a Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper (LQC) method of development; coming up with an original place-based idea, that can be expanded upon over time.
