SRUC HNC Horticulture
HNC Horticulture studies with SRUC – graduated with Merit (2024). Working towards a better understanding of plants, planting and ecology.
The course covered a broad range of subjects; maintenance, production, design, ecology, taxonomy and plant biology – deepening my knowledge and understanding of the planning, design and management of community urban greening projects and the creation of beautiful and useful spaces for nature and people.
The course enabled me to develop my knowledge of garden design principles, creation of planting schemes, surveying to create Site Analysis Plans and Ecological Survey reports, drawing up planting plans, designs and planting spreadsheets/bill of quantities for landscape designs, production techniques (grafting, striking cuttings and seed sowing), practical tasks (soil preparation, marking out sites for planting, maintenance of planting schemes, implementing IPM strategies and use of machinery) as well as an understanding of the scientific principles of soil chemistry, photosynthesis, water and nutrient uptake for plant growth and plant taxonomy.
