Take the Plunge
Take the Plunge reflects the heritage of the site on Morecambe’s promenade where it now stands. A place where the glorious art deco Super Swimming Stadium was once enjoyed by holiday makers in the days when the town was a flourishing seaside resort.
Take the Plunge is an evocative statement. Is it an act of admirable courage or reckless stupidity? Or a confident message about change and the future?
The bottom of the piece reads: ‘Swim Unaided and Self – Propelled from Deep to Shallow‘ – beautiful, brave words that were written on the original Blue Seagull swimming certificate issued to those daring enough to swim one length of the icy cold salt waters of the pool.
The artwork is a companion piece to my Trip the Light Fantastic work.
